S1 ContentOriginally built in 1866, Stapehill Abbey has been transformed through a meticulous restoration project into a stunning development of over 50 luxury private residences. This ambitious conversion preserves the Abbey's rich history while creating a modern and elegant living environment.
Purchased in 2015 by Ankers and Rawling, and supported by English Heritage, the restoration brought new life to this historic site. Hoare Banks Stonemasons were commissioned to provide expert cleaning, restoration, and the creation of new stonework to ensure the Abbey's architectural beauty was preserved for generations to come.

The gable wall was stabilised and repaired following signs of weathering and displacement. This included the careful removal and replacement of deteriorated kneeler and coping stones, which were individually cut and dressed to match the original profile and finish. A new arched porch was supplied and installed to enhance the entrance of the Abbey. Crafted in Bath Stone, the porch features detailed masonry work, including a decorative cross mounted above the entrance. The design was based on historic reference to maintain architectural continuity. Extensive repairs were carried out across multiple window openings. Works included the removal and replacement of eroded mullions, ensuring structural support and aesthetic accuracy. All joints and surrounds were repointed using traditional lime mortar, applied to match existing finishes.
